About Us
Lothersdale Community Primary School is a locally managed co-educational school, maintained by the Education Authority of North Yorkshire County Council.
The school is in the village of Lothersdale with the original building constructed in 1891. In 2001 a classroom, offices and additional toilets were added, providing exceptional facilities for a school of our size. In 2004 a new classroom and additional storage space were added above the school hall. In 2008 a further upstairs room, toilets and storage areas were added along with a new office and reception area. Ours is a small school that recognises that children have individual needs and our aim is to encourage every child to reach their potential.
Our achievements have been recognised by a number of relevant agencies. In 2000-2001 we were awarded a Quality Mark by the Basic Skills Agency, this was renewed in 2004 and 2007. Since 2003 we have been judged annually by the local education authority to be a Highly Effective school. In 2009 we gained the prestigious Arts Mark Gold Award for the second time.
In January 2006 and October 2008 OFSTED judged our school to be outstanding with no significant areas for improvement. A further RE subject inspection in April 2008 judged our school to be outstanding in this area of the curriculum.
The governors of the school are drawn from the local community and are committed to working with the staff and the local authority to continually improve on the high standards of education currently provided and to enhance the educational environment in which this is delivered.
